new Felix problems

Post by hvdd »

hi, just assembled the printer without big problems.
firmware version D loaded - but fail.
reason the resetbutton was always pushed... solved.
testing the unit:
x axis ok home ok
z axis ok home ok
y axis ??? home ok but on X and Z if opto is activated stepper turn reverse few steps and then back.
and on Y axis the stepper do not turn in reverse and the system will not receive commands anymore ????
the y axis stepper will only go in one way - home position not back

i swapped connectors X and Y for steppers and opto detectors and the error is now on the X axis.
so stepper, wiring and opto is ok for Y axis.
i swapped the small printboards (drivers) and the error stays on the Y axis , it is not the driver pcb.
reloaded firmware version D ( for safety) error stays.

any advice ? it seems me the I/O board that is faulty

So, its looks like that the Steppermotor only wants to move in one direction?
There’s a spare Steppermotor slot on the RAMPS electronics board. If you change the Y steppermotor routing in the firmware you could use that.

I’ve looked into the firmware for you and these are the steps you have to make in order to swap the Y steppermotor slot with the spare one:

- Open up arduino and load the firmware “marlin.ino” file.

- Now a lot of tabs open up at the top. On the top-right there’s a small arrow down (below the looking glass). Click that and select “pins.h

- Now scroll down until you see these lines:

Code: Select all

 /****************************************************************************************
* Arduino Mega pin assignment
*
****************************************************************************************/
#if MOTHERBOARD == 3 || MOTHERBOARD == 33 || MOTHERBOARD == 34
#define KNOWN_BOARD 1
- Now scroll down to this lines:

Code: Select all

#define Y_STEP_PIN         60
#define Y_DIR_PIN          61
#define Y_ENABLE_PIN       56
- And change tis to:

Code: Select all

#define Y_STEP_PIN         36
#define Y_DIR_PIN          34
#define Y_ENABLE_PIN       30
- Now scroll to:

Code: Select all

#define E1_STEP_PIN        36
#define E1_DIR_PIN         34
#define E1_ENABLE_PIN      30
- And change to:

Code: Select all

#define E1_STEP_PIN        60
#define E1_DIR_PIN         61
#define E1_ENABLE_PIN      56
- Save, compile and upload!

Now you have swapped the Y with the Spare. Don’t forget to plug the stepper driver control board into the separate slot and the Y connector.

oh, and have you glue'd the steppermotor driver heatsinks with 2 component thermal adhesive, instead of the thermal paste supplied with the kit?

It's odd that this type of error is so common. I cannot help but wonder what the actual cause is. Possibly a bug in the signal handling by the Marlin firmware? Especially as I intermittently experienced a similar problem a few weeks ago, but it went away after some fiddling. But I never found out what caused it, or why it went away.

What happens when you move the offending axis to the middle, then manually block the optosensor before the axis reaches home position?

Where is that firmware? I only see the old "Marlin RC2_Felix_1_0_RevD_v3.zip"? Is there a "what's changed" list?

in the map downloadS you will see RevE version . prblem solved.
first small prints of a few minutes works fine but with larger parts after 5 min the X axis is not moving anymore.
I think a heating problem because after 15 minutes it works again.

i did'nt use the double face thermal adhesive but an other one.
i will try with thermal adhesive and do some tests this evening.

already 9 parts printed as test ....
the overheating of the drivers yesterday seems solved.
i used the white cooling pasta on half the cooler and on the other half, part that is not touching the chip a
small dot of the black silicone ( supplied with the kit).
so it is glued on one side and good connection with the driverchip.

most wanted update at this moment is a holder for PLA wire
will check it out.

Can't find the download section. Do you have a direct link?

There are several PLA Wire holders. I've also made one myself. Very simple and effective with just 3 2,5cm tubes and no bearings. You may download it over here:

after several hours of printing some problems appear...
first we printed the Wire holder as mentioned above wihout problems.
later on, yesterday and today every print is going bad...
quite difficult to explain, all settings are as on the first day,
it seems me that sometimes no plastic is coming out of the nozzle, sometimes for only a part of a layer
others a full layer and more
first idea was it is to heavy for the stepper to get in the wire, but even without any friction for the wire we have the same problem.
temp are ok ( 200°) all settings as in the man. and we use SFact as slicer.

already readjusted and dismounted several parts and reassembled but the same problem
how to clean the nozzle without damage ?
somebody any idea ?
as you can see in the pictures.
first on the left ok - today in the middle
in the back the wire holder splitted in two parts - same problem.
