Skewed prints

Post by 3djohny »

Hello, we have been using 2 x Felix Printers 3 for about a year. Recently when a company asked us to print some bigger flat component, I noticed the print came out skewed, so instead of rectangular shape I got parallelogram. The printed object is also bulging in the center, even I assured myself that the first layer is laying flat on the heatbed. Photo shown below.

I have no idea what could cause the problem. I print with PLA, and I tried to slice it with different slicers (sfact, cure) but the skew is on both of them printed. I tought there may be some HW issue but I cant figure what to do to fix it. The axis looks normal. But the skew is at both of the printers...

I also checked the model and it is rectangular.

Do you have any ideas what could I try to fix this problem please?

Thanks in advance.

Try checking belts and pulleys, but also try printing calibration cube at different locations on the build plate and see if there are any noticeable differences. If so then possibly a stretched belt.

If it's happening on both then check the model may be in the model?

I personally don’t think it’s a belt or slicer problem. If the model is skewed in X – Y, the two X and Y linear bearings probably aren’t aligned perfectly. If you unscrew the bearing rail’s or bearing block there is a tiny bit room for play. Also, check if the framework is perfectly perpendicular.

I’ve attached an image, it’s totally distorted by the wide angle lens, but I think you get the idea ;)

So, make sure the two X and Y bearings are exactly 90 degrees.

That definitely sounds feasible

This can also be "fixed" by firmware (Repetier, rather new version). See also http://forum.felixprinters.com/viewtopi ... =10&t=1118.
