Bed is not flat anymore ;(

Post by Boris »

So, when I bought Felix the bed was perfectly flat with no distortions.

After half year and >1000 meters thread printed(~11 days), my bed have hill at middle. I mean it's bended by itself with no mechanical impacts or any other actions.

So, at any of corners of bed the hotend is 1mm high above it but this distance becomes lower and lower any centimeter close to center. At very middle of bed the hotend touches the bad.

How it's happened ?
Can it be fixed ?

I have no answers to your questions, im am interested in
the answers too. I recognized
distortion of the bed too. But the other way round.
The hotend touches in the corners and is about 1mm
above the bed in the center.
Half a year of printing too.
It's anoying, because i adjusted the distance to the bed
in the center of the bed for fine printing. Therefor the nozzle
drives into the bed, when going to the home-position.
I guess distortion because of thermal effects.

Have the same problem.. the only way I can get sort off good prints right now is to put on a Glass plate which I attach with dual sided tape instead of clamps which cause to much tension.

Don't know how Felix is responding to this? The printer is a bit expensive to get this kind of problems after only 1500 meters printing.

Also my bed does have a hill in the middle.
I allready ordered un other one and the second one the same problem.
Also I resolved the problem with 3mm window glass, but there is an other problem.
The glass doesn't touch anymore the heated bed and the heat is not everywhere the same, because I drilled M4 holes in every angle and put in the bolts M4 and with the bolds I can rigister the level of the glass.

Are there other kind of boards?

Is this the solid aluminium plate or the new laminated aluminium plate?

I still use the solid version, and a removable glass plate. The glass plate does make the Y more heavy but the benefits made me to do this anyway.
- Super flat bed
- Easily to remove large printed objects by removing the complete glass plate. This way I don’t transfer stress to the printing when prying off the printed object
- Different bed materials: I use different glass plate’s for different filaments. Glass plate with inkjet print sticker for PLA and bare glass plate with glue stick for ABS.[/list]

Thanks Sartoer,

I use the new laminated aluminium plate.

What thicknes do you use for aluminium plate and glass?

Is possible to use directly the borosilicate glass with an aluminium X-frame? The resistend sticker attached under it?

I'm using a 2mm aluminium plate with cheap 2mm normal glass on it:
Sportdag-1034.jpg
-Inkjet printer sticker (sticks better than kapton)
-2mm glass (from picture frame)
-2mm Alu plate (original came with Felix 1.5)
-Kapton Heater
-Isolation (piece of ironing board cover).

Thank you Satoer,

Felix still have those aluminium plates?

By the way, what's ironing board cover?

Is dat het hetzelfde materiaal wat je plaatst achter de centrale verwarming als isolatie?

Don't think they sell the solid plates anymore. Also the sandwich plate is thicker, so it should be more resistant against bending. But I don't have any experience with the sandwich plate.

Hi all,
I use a glass plate 27 x 30cm and cover it with the Scotch Bluetape 2090. It's an original replacement part of the Mankati Fullscale XT printer with exact these sizes . Can be found at "at the dealer next to you..." ;)
