Post by Kjetilei »

Found this nice photo of Felix being assembled for MAKE's 3D Print Shop Weekend:

This is part of a +15 3D printer shot out where Felix is included :)

Many more photos of Felix and the other printers on FLickr:

Fingers crossed for the printing results!

I saw that some of the prints from other printers where not stellar but I'm uncertain if it is problems with the printer design, printer build or settings...

Google+ hangout in a couple of hours, but I'm most likely in bed then :)

Google+ Hangout is now over.

They had gotten the Felix printer assembled a couple of hours ago but had not started printing on it yet. Took 20 hours to assemble (if I heard correctly). A bummer that they had not gotten it to print yet...

They thought it might be Open Source, but said that they where uncertain.

General nice feedback although they knew very little about it and had not seen it printing yet.

Cool to see all the different printers at one spot, I wish I could be there...Yeah I've indeed seen the print results which were not very good, but I hope the Felix print results will be awesome. Also nice to know that the Felix was one of the few european printers over there...

The 20 hours was a pretty long time in my opinion, I expected it to be a lot shorter...Also a bummer that the interviewed person didn't know much to say about the printer, but good to know that the general feeling was good.

I hope they manage to do some good printing over there.

If you want to watch the Felix coverage but don't have the time too look through the whole video you can skip to around 1:32:40.

Coverage is less than minimalistic in this video

Today some guy here asked me whether I knew about a good 3D printer's guide that compares printers. IMHO there is none. However, over the last 2 month, MAKE did do some in-depth testing of modern 3D printers in which some of us took part a bit (we had to send designs and sample prints, though I don't know if anyone did that).

Now the News: the Make Ultimate Guide to 3D printing will be out on nov 20:

If I understand right, they printed three calibration objects with each printer for comparison. I wonder how well they managed to calibrate the various slicer settings for each printer....

The YouTube Video isn't that interesting, i.e. you can watch it while you work on something else, but it provides information about the "making" of the Guide.

Thanks for linking to the latest Hangout video.

Notice what is said in the sequence from 17:45 and what printer the example is printed on ;)

I have my fingers and toes crossed in hope that they calibrated the Felix properly and saw how great the Felix is :)
