Help Needed

Post by EDaS »

Hi There

I am trying to print a 25mm OD tube with 1mm wall thickness.

It is printing well, but instead of a 1mm thick solid wall, I am getting a double layer wall, with a gap between the two layers. This makes the structure very weak.

Anyone have any ideas to solve this problem, and print a solid 1mm thick wall?

Slicing in Sfact - normal no support.

Many thanks in advance

Ed.

Use Slic3r.

I've made an example between the differences (2,5 cm tube 1mm wall):

Does it need to be exact 1mm?
If it's just a tube, you can make a solid cylinder and use infill of 0, top and bottom 0 and shell's on 2 which makes a hollow tube with 3 layers width (makes 3 x 0,38= 1.14mm).

You can also set the "Extrusion width" to 0.35 mm (temporarly!) in the "carve" tab

Wow.

Thanks very much for this. I really didn't expect a reply with this level of detail, and am extremely grateful.

Looking at your responses it would seem that using Slic3r is the cleanest option, and I tried it immediately.

It was ony the second time that I had used Slic3r ( used sfact extensively up till now) but the programme didn't seem to be doing anything. No progress showing anywhere on the screen, and no G code generated after around 30 minutes.

Perhaps I should re-install repetier host?

Is there anywhere the I can download profiles specifically for Felix, or do I need to set all the parameters manually?

Thank you again.

All best

The easiest way it to do my last suggestion. There aren't official Slic3r felix profiles around, but you may use mine as a starting point. (but you probably want to remove the set temperature and wait temperature gcode in the generated gcode beginning).

Hi Satoer,

Brilliant. If I am ever in the Netherlands I shall buy you dinner.

Worked through the Slic3r settings, changed them as appropriate, and the felix is now printing a cylinder with seemingly perfect 1mm wall.

Very many thanks. I shall be using Slic3r from now on!

Hi Satoer,
Thanks for posting your profiles! I too would like to get Slic3r up and running. I have a Felix 3 dual extruder. Are there any changes that I would need to be concerned with?

Thanks in advance,
Kerry
