PET+

Post by DDME-Marc »

Hi All,

Having had repeated success using (MadeSolid) PET+ filament, I figured it was high time to share nominal printer settings.

My experience has been that PET+ achieves mechanical properties similar to ABS but does not absorb water/moisture like typical nylon filaments. And unlike ABS I do not experience any warping issues.

Of all the colours currently available the white has been my preferred choice as it prints better, and is marginally stiffer.

I print directly onto a heated bed with Kapton tape (without glues), and I experience no print removal issues.

I print PET+ in conjunction with HIPS (which I dissolve using citrus turpentine).

Also I have no issues with humidity, and I make no effort to dry spools or store them in any special way.

Apart from minor issues with drool when I switch extruders this filament produces excellent parts which I use in mechanical engineering applications.

Print settings:-

1st layer: 15~20 mm/s
print speed: 30~40 mm/s
Infill speed: 40~60 mm/s
Layer height: 0.15~0.25mm
Extrusion temp: 235~252 C
Fan: OFF (unless printing very small/thin detail)
Travel: 200 mm/s

Extruder settings:-

Retract: 2mm
Retract speed: 120 mm/s *
Maximum retract acceleration: 150 mm/s/s

*(NB - retract speed does not conform to standard Felix firmware settings, and changing this setting may void warranty? I have used copper anti-seize lubricant on the z axis thread and adjusted the firmware to increase speed without increasing load. In doing so eliminated drool, blobs etc.)

Bed:-

Temperature: 70 degrees
Coating: Kapton tape

Cheers,

Marc

Hi Mayhem,

We too struggle with shipping costs. I have only used two suppliers to date.

Firstly Type A Machines. My last order for 2kg incurred shipping cost of approximately 92 USD.

I currently purchase direct from MadeSolid and the last shipment for 4 lb was approximately 73 USD.

I spoke directly with MadeSolid to try and find alternate shipping arrangements/freight forwarders etc. but I had little success.

We can only hope user demand leads to more distributors (closer to home) carrying stocks.

Hi Saamec,

My current projects have to much commercial sensitivity to share, but next week I am finishing development on sport tool for AWD which I can share.

Cheers,

Marc

Hi Mayhem,

The suppliers I mentioned I use for sourcing PET+ only, as none of my other suppliers stock this filament, but thanks for the link in any case.

Ironically I got an email from MadeSolid (Pete Walton -Marketing) today, so I gave him a run down on high shipping cost in general, including your excessive shipping cost.

Turns out your shipping cost was high because it was estimated rates only, although he assures me in a later email that Finland is now in their system.

I guess even if your shipping rates drop in half (say close to 60 USD), I still believe this cost may put people off.

Cheers,

Marc

Thanks for the info, 60$ is still too much for one roll of filament.
Ill check what shipping cost is now.
