Hot end temperature

Post by chrisblanchard »

Dual 3.0
One of my hot ends does not get to programmed temperature, it is capable but when programming a M109 it lags a degree back.

So if I give it a code M109 195 it will go to 194 degrees and bounce back and forth at 193 to 194 therefore the build never starts.

To fix I delete M109 but I really want to fix the problem.

make sure the thermistor is firmly in the hot end and not loose, as I think the new hot ends use screws to secure the heater and thermistor

If you really can't get it to hit the actual temp, you may need to modify the PID values slightly.
Using the repetier manual control window, you can adjust the PID values with the M301 command, e.g., "M301 Pxx Ixx Dxx".

The current Repetier source is using the following values for the hot end PID controllers:
P 41
I 0.1
D 260

You could try adjusting I to 0.2 or maybe adjust P or D upward slightly, then set the temp and watch the temperature graphs for a while. Overly large adjustments will cause overshoot, which is undesirable as well, of course, but you don't want to find yourself in this situation where you never reach the setpoint either. If you find values that work better, you can save them to EEPROM with M500 so that they are persistent for the future.

P is the proportional value of the controller
I the integral and
D the differential

I would only tweak the I value and if you do overshoot too much change the D value

you could also try the auto tune, I know the marlin firmware has it, but not sure about repeiter.
